What is a Concussion?

  • Our Physio team at Frenchs Forest and Macquarie Park are trained at assessing and treating concussion injuries.

  • If an individual has had a blow to the head then the individual is likely to have symptoms such as dizziness, blurred vision, headaches, concentration problems and much more.

  • Many people believe a concussion causes the brain to shake inside the skull. However this is in fact wrong, as a concussion results in millions of nerves to fire all at the same time and this can be too much for the brain to handle.

Why is important to treat a concussion?

  • In humans, our peak energy low is 5 days after concussion and full recovery takes 2-4 weeks before our ATP levels are restored to normal.

  • During this recovery period the brain is vulnerable and another injury during this time can acquire cumulative effects, resulting in further damage to brain and leading to cell death.
